Prepare your documents

Common documents for notarization or commissioning include:

• Affidavits & statutory declarations: written statements you swear or affirm are true.
• Certified true copies: copies compared with your originals, such as a passport, diploma or certificate.
• Child travel consent letters: a parent’s or guardian’s signature witnessed by a notary.
• Forms requiring a witnessed signature: where the receiving organization requests a notary.

Complete your document’s details, but leave signatures for the appointment. Bring the receiving organization’s instructions. Document drafting and legal advice are separate from notarization; eligibility is reviewed at the appointment.

Bring these to your appointment

• Valid, original government-issued photo ID for each person signing, such as a passport or driver’s licence.
• Your documents, unsigned wherever a signature must be witnessed. Sign in front of the notary.
• Originals and the copies to be certified if you need certified true copies.
• Everyone whose signature needs witnessing must attend with their own ID.
